I wasn’t a bodybuilder in high school, quite the opposite in fact. There is one story that I tell a lot regarding my early years and that was my experience on my high school football team.
I was invited to participate in pre-season workouts, I had never touched weights in my life before. It was hard. Very hard. I remember attempting a simple curl motion with a 10lb weight and not being able to do it. I was ridiculed, made fun of, and I left… never to return.
I went through high school and college without REALLY weight training. I dabbled in things like Beach Body workouts and intramural college athletics, but never anything consistent or intentional. It wasn’t until after college when I was in a fairly toxic relationship that I decided I needed an outlet for my anxiety and stress and found myself walking back into a weight room.
I didn’t know what I was doing, but I was consistent. I kept showing up and fumbling around the gym until I met up with another early morning gym-goer who decided to take me under his wing and show me the ropes. Consequently, he was very much into bodybuilding and imparted his knowledge to me, which is where I fell in love with the sport. What happened next changed the course of my life.
I was preparing for a show, practicing my posing when a random guy, Scott, decided to comment on my physique and ask some questions. We hit it off and decided to follow each other on social. After that interaction, I started doing some online coaching and dipping my toes in the training world. When Scott started expanding Iron Legion (Iron Will at the time), he reached out and I came on board as a Coach — this changed everything. This is when I realized WHAT a gym could be. This is when I realized WHO a gym could help.
It wasn’t just bodybuilders or bros… it was normal everyday people who just wanted to feel better. I was hooked trying to help people. I quit my 9-5 and went full throttle into coaching at Iron Legion Strength Co.
As we got bigger, ideas began to flourish. How could we help as many people as we can? Expand. I was thankfully tapped to attempt the first location outside of the original location. I didn’t know if it would work, but I knew that instead of helping 30 people, I could help 100 people.
As of this moment, that’s where we’re at. Helping close to 100 people and I have 5 badass Coaches behind me helping to change lives in Scarborough.
I never thought I would be here, it was never in the cards to own a gym. It was never in the cards to be a personal trainer… but here we are. I am thankful for every one of the clients who walk through those doors looking to better their lives.
This is a passion project for me and my team. Time to make an impact.
