As Coaches, we are always trying to bring the best out in people and keeping on them to get their health and fitness in order. It is well known that if you want to see noticeable changes in your health and fitness, some sort of consistency has to happen. Things don’t go well when you are consistent for several weeks and then drop off for a week. That pattern never works. However, from time to time, there will be situations where the emotional outweighs the physical. What does that mean?
Situations like major holidays, weddings, funerals, celebrations of life, a close relative’s birthday party, etc. are all instances where being with friends and family are more important than working out. Sure, you can bust out a workout before your friend’s wedding, or get into our Turkey Day TRAIN before Thanksgiving, but it’s not necessary. Sometimes these events are when you see distant relatives or friends who live across the country… spend time with them. Fill your emotional cup. The workouts and the diet will be there tomorrow.
Now, that doesn’t mean we can slack off for the entire month of December, or chain a wedding into a week, that will start to do some damage. As I mentioned earlier, consistency is key. If you are consistent with your workouts and your nutrition, you will notice that taking a day to fill your emotional cup will have no negative benefits. Health and fitness is NOT only about calories and workouts. To be truly healthy means being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy and those other cups need to be filled from time to time.
So, as we cruise into Christmas and you’re freaking out about how many calories Christmas dinner has, don’t. Put that aside for a night and enjoy the evening. Enjoy seeing friends and family and sharing in this thing called life… the workout will be there tomorrow, and that’s the perfect time to do it.
