Fuel Your Workouts: Simple Nutrition Hacks for Busy People

The big theme at Iron Legion Scarborough this month is getting your nutrition game started. Adding nutrition to your workouts is like hitting the turbo button, the process you see will become faster when you start to fuel your body properly. I get it… the 21st century is a crazy time and people are busy, overwhelmed, stressed, and moving at lightning speed. Today I wanted to give you three simple nutrition hacks for busy individuals:

  1. Prep your protein: protein is probably the most important macronutrient to pay attention to. Most people undereat their protein, but it is responsible for a whole host of important bodily processes. In addition, it keeps you satiated which will slow down your snacking. Pick a day over the weekend or at the very beginning of your week and batch cook your protein sources. Use the prepped protein to add to salads, wraps, or bowls without adding cooking time throughout the week!
  2. Stock up on grab-and-go snacks: keep portable healthy snacks on hand. Things like mixed nuts, string cheese, Greek yogurt, or fruit are great options to grab as you’re on your way out the door or heading into a meeting.
  3. Freeze smoothie bags: pre-portion fruit, greens and a scoop of protein powder into bags and freeze them! When you are short on time, take one of these bags and just add water or milk to blend up a quick and healthy smoothie.

There are many ways that you can shorten your time in the kitchen, these are just a few. One of the biggest things you can do is have a plan. Understanding what you are going to eat, when, and when you have time to prep those things are of the utmost importance. If you’re someone whose schedule is back-to-back jam-packed, you’ll have to schedule these time blocks. Literally put them in your schedule and block them off.

I remind you all of the Caretaker’s Paradox: if you can’t take care of yourself 100%, how are you going to take care of someone else? Or perform at a high level at your job? You can’t. YOU need to be 100%. 2025 is the year of taking your life back. It’s the year of putting yourself first. Always put on your oxygen mask before assisting others.
